When I was pregnant with my now five week old baby boy I would visualize this scene from Under the Tuscan Sun where Sandra Oh is dancing with her new baby in the garden. It’s something I did to calm the fraying nerves (as an addition to perhaps the most serious praying I’ve ever done) when the magnitude of what was coming began to settle in. It was an image that settled me not because I was delusional enough to believe life with a newborn would be dancing in a serene Italian garden, but because it reminded me that absolutely no matter the sleep deprivation and challenges to come that this child is a blessing. Period.
Maybe there are women who had a baby with stars in their eyes and a belief all of life with their new baby would be such tender moments. I, however, always feared there would be too many moments like in Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood where a bevy of kids are puking and pooing all over an overwhelmed Ashley Judd.
Motherhood I’ve come to understand very quickly is both.
And now that we are celebrating week five in Wilder World I realize that those dancing in the garden moments do exist and do so only because of the challenging moments. One makes the other so much richer.

Having an Under the Tuscan Sun moment with Wilder
Cherish each moment and savior each new sound and imageā¦..they will pass all to soon. Motherhood,
is the most coveted job in the world, Enjoy! You might just have a Ya-Ya moment soon enough but you always have “the Sisterhood” near.
